HOW TO CLEAN A COLLAPSIBLE WATER BOTTLE AND MAINTAIN A FRESH TASTE?
Traveling with a reusable water bottle is a great way to cut down your environmental impact (and save you from having to spend $6 at the airport just to stay hydrated). But there is a downside: Carrying around an empty bottle in your already tightly packed travel bag is different kind of wasteful.
Thankfully, collapsible water bottles have recently risen in demand in the eco friendly outdoor products industry. They're generally made with lightweight, flexible materials like silicone that allow you to fold, flatten, or twist them down to become compact enough to fit easily into your bag (or even your pocket in some cases) and then expand again when it’s time to fill up.
How to Maintaining a Fresh Taste in your Travel / Outdoors bottle?
Before First use
Before first use, you need to remove the new bottle's taste. fill your bottle with boiling water, add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice or tea (optional: add 2 tablespoons of baking soda), soak overnight, rinse with cold water. Repeat as needed.
Cleaning maintenance
Keep your bottle fresh and taste-free by cleaning on a regular basis with any of these methods :
BOTTLE BRUSH
Use a soft-bristled water bottle cleaning brush with hot dish soapy water to scrub the bottle's interior and lid/cap, rinse thoroughly, and air out to dry.
HANDSHAKE
Fill halfway with hot water and dish soap, close, shake vigorously, empty, rinse thoroughly, and air out to dry.
DISHWASHER (top-rack)
Place bottle on top rack with the lid separated, aiming the silicone body's mouth opening downward. Secure the strap so that it doesn't dangle onto the heating element. Please note: although Nomader bottles are dishwasher safe, you may find our other suggested cleaning methods to be more effective.
CLEANING TABLETS
When away from home for travel, hiking, or camping, water bottle cleaning tablets are the most convenient way to keep your bottle squeaky clean.

Drop-in some lemon slices or lemon juice for a healthy and refreshing flavor. Lemon juice is also a natural safeguard against bacteria. Alternatively, add True Lemon, essential oils, or other natural flavors.
If it is possible, fill your bottle with fresh filtered water from a reliable source, available in most airports, hotels. restaurants, and cafes. Unfiltered tap water has chlorine, sulfur, and other chemicals which can cause a bad odor and aftertaste in silicone bottles.
Remember to Replace water that's been in your bottle for several hours or days, especially in warm and wet environments where bacteria runs rampant.
Before stowing away your bottle, ensure it's completely dry to avoid mold growth (mold thrives in dark, damp environments). The easiest way to dry your bottle is to place upside down on a dry rack with the lid removed.
